Membership Benefits
RA-UK Membership is open to any medically qualified person who is involved in the practice of anaesthesia and regional anaesthesia in the United Kingdom.
Benefits of RA-UK membership
Joining RA-UK helps to financially support your local society. RA-UK membership confers some additional benefits over and above ESRA membership
You will become a FULL member in YOUR national society RAUK, actively supporting national goals in education and research.
- Payment of annual ESRA membership fee by Direct Debit via the RAUK administration (AAGBI)*
- 15% reduction on all RAUK organised course and Annual Scientific Meeting
- Eligibility for small grant awards (see grants section)
- Eligibility for travel grants to ESRA/ASRA and courses (see grants section)
- Eligibility to apply for "RA-UK approved course" recognition
- Electronic newsletter with details of society activity and discounted courses.
- Free Android or iOS version "A Pocket Guide to Ultrasound Guided Regional Anaesthesia" when you first join (not available for international members, but gain access to electronic version on website) Please note, this is in final stages of development and should be available by Spring.
- Website access, including electronic version of handbook, catch-up webinars and more...
* As ESRA is a European society, collection of their fees by Direct Debit is not available and it requires annual payment by credit card. RA-UK will collect both payments and then pay ESRA for you, relieving you of the inconvenience of having to re-register every year.
RA-UK is also open to international members, who receive many of the member benefits above (including course/ASM discounts, website access and newsletters). Please see international membership category for more details.

On joining you have the option of just joining RA-UK or RA-UK & ESRA.

Apply Online
You can now join RA-UK Online.
For UK Memberships; when you choose this option, after filling out your details, and choosing a login password, you will be taken to our payment website GoCardless where you will sign up for a direct debit mandate. Once you have done this, you will receive an email from them with details of the mandate. This will be dated for the next year. We then check your membership details, take a payment using GoCardless for this year, and authorise your online account. Please note, this process may take a number of days. Only then will you receive an email from RA-UK with details of your account, and a further email when your online login has been authorised. If you have received your GoCardless email, you do not need to contact us to check if your application is OK. If you are applying for the ASM, you dont need to wait for your membership approval email, go ahead and book, and we will double check your membership and contact you if theres any issue.
For Joint ESRA Memberships; RA-UK will contact ESRA on your behalf and setup your ESRA membership. These membersips are processed monthly, so please be patient for ESRA to send you their login details.
For International Memberships; unless you hold a UK bank account, it is usually difficult to setup a payment using GoCardless, so please use the option to pay via Paypal (you dont need a paypal account, as long as you have a credit card, for countries where paypal is not allowed, please contact the society directly). With this method, your account will be activated immediately. Please This email address is being protected from spambots. Terms & Conditions
Background
RA- UK is the recognised UK national affiliate of the parent society European Society of Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Therapy (ESRA). Previously, membership of ESRA automatically conferred membership of ESRA (UK & Ireland) to residents of UK and Northern Ireland, at no additional cost. At the Annual Member Meeting Belfast May 2010, it was greed to levy an annual member fee of £25. This fee will help support all the activities of the society and is optional as all ESRA members will still be members of RAUK (ESRA member), but without some of the added advantages of being a full RAUK member. If you decide to pay the £25 RAUK annual membership fee in addition to the ESRA membership fee, the additional benefits are:
1. Membership of a more nationally identified society, with aims and objectives independent of the European society, but affiliated with it.
2. Free version of "A Pocket Guide to Ultrasound Guided Regional Anaesthesia" App when you first join
3. A direct debit facility to allow automatic annual payment of both RAUK and ESRA membership fees. The ESRA fee will be forwarded to ESRA by RA-UK on the member’s behalf. Currently, the ESRA fee has to be paid annually by credit card, when requested by ESRA.
4. 15% Discounts on all RA-UK sponsored national meetings, the value of which will exceed the RA- UK membership fee.
5. Eligibility to small grant awards (see website).
6. Notification of society activity/courses via an electronic newsletter.
7. Eligibility to apply for ‘RA-UK course approved’ recognition
Subscription Fees
1. RAUK will collect its annual fees on or around 1 January every year. The amount collected will be the ESRA fee (if applicable) + £25/15/10 RA-UK annual subscription.
2. If you also elect to join ESRA, we will ensure that your ESRA membership fees are transferred to ESRA. In exchange, we will update ESRA to activate your membership, without having to pay them separately. Please use the same email address to sign up with ESRA that you use with RAUK.
3. ESRA will inform us of any changes in membership fees prior to the 1st January, and we will communicate any changes in the annual membership fees in late December of the preceding year.
4. All subscriptions run annually from 1st January. If you join part way through the year, you will be charged a full annual fee regardless of when you join. This is to maintain alignment with ESRA. If joining in December, we will start your membership for the following year, unless you contact us and explicitly request otherwise.
*The ESRA fee is set in Euros and the Sterling value is dependent on the exchange rate at the time of Direct Debit collection.
Cancellation of membership
You can cancel your RA-UK and/or ESRA membership at any time during the year until the annual direct debit has been processed (usually over the Christmas period). If you wish to cancel your membership entirely, please do this via your bank (and cancel the direct debit mandate to GoCardless). If you wish to upgrade or downgrade your membership, please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Once the direct debit has been taken, any cancellation will only take place for the following years subscription.
