This workshop will take place at the Centre of Biomedical Sciences, Queen’s University, Belfast. We are very grateful to the Centre of Biomedical Sciences for the use of these excellent facilities.
This is a one-day hands-on workshop for senior anaesthetists, demonstrating peripheral neural blockade for surgical anaesthesia and postoperative analgesia. There will be rotating workstations with cadaver specimens of the upper limb, lower limb, anterior abdomen and posterior abdomen. There will be live models for traditional landmark and ultrasound techniques. The instructors will provide tips and practical advice using ultrasound or neural blockade. Early registration is advisable as there are only 64 places available for the workshop programme.
Instructors: Each workstation will be have two to three experienced instructors in regional anaesthesia (UK and international). There will also be anatomists present to assist with the cadaver workshops. Eight participants will be assigned to eight workstations and will rotate throughout the morning and afternoon. Most of the workstations will be further subdivided.The fee is £150 for ESRA members, £175 for non-members.
PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU WISH TO ATTEND THE WORKSHOPS OR THE REFRESHER COURSE, YOU ARE REQUIRED TO REGISTER FOR THE SCIENTIFIC MEETING ON FRIDAY.
These workshops will be recognised as fulfilling the cadaver anatomy requirement for eligibility to sit the ESRA Diploma on Regional Anaesthesia. (www.esraeurope.org/education_diploma.asp).

Refresher Course places STILL AVAILABLE
To be held on Friday 7 May at the Centre of Biomedical Sciences, Queen’s University, Belfast, the Refresher course will be a day of dissertation, discussion, debate with three internationally renown regional anaesthetists William Harrop-Griffiths, Peter Marhofer and Barry Nicholls.
The format will be short lectures followed by discussion and case presentations (delegates will be invited to submit cases for discussion before the meeting). To enable lively interaction and debate the numbers will be restricted to 40 for this refresher course, which will be held in parallel to the workshops.
Location:Centre of Biomedical Sciences, 97 Lisburn Road, Queen’s University, Belfast, BT9 7BL. The Main Campus is easily
reached from the city centre (1.5 km).
Tea/coffee/lunch: These will be provided throughout the day and are included in the fee.
Parking: There is parking available near the University and The main Campus is easily and quickly reached from the city centre.
The Scientific Meeting will be held at the Stormont Hotel, Belfast.
We have a very interesting programme, including sessions on regional anaesthesia in difficult and different locations, the
benefits and use of epidurals vs abdominal wall blocks (TAP) in emergency lapaotomies and a session on the place spinal
anesthesia in the 21st century. The speakers include many familiar names and international experts including Professor Francis
Bonnet (France) and the Bruce Scott lecture will be delivered by Professor Peter Marhofer (Vienna).

Directions: The hotel lies 4 miles east of Belfast City Centre. Follow the M3, A2 and A20 from the City centre, heading towards Newtownards. Situated opposite the famous Stormont Castle and Parliament Buildings, in a quiet suburban area, the Stormont Hotel Belfast provides an excellent base to tour around both Belfast and the scenic beauty of County Down.
