Ultrasound for Pain Medicine Workshops 2012 - Milan

This is a 2-day intensive ultrasound workshop offered to physicians who wish to learn ultrasound guided nerve block procedures for chronic pain management. At the end of this introductory course, participants would have acquired a thorough knowledge of ultrasound imaging and needling techniques for chronic block procedures.

Prerequisite: Prior experience with some basic chronic pain block procedures and ultrasound-guided technical skills is recommended.

This will be a friendly event, offering welcome cool relief from the August Milan heat and is open to delegates and their spouses.
Course Description: The course will cover a number of selected nerve block procedures for chronic pain management involving neuraxial, peripheral nerve and soft tissue structures.
They are:
1. Occipital nerve block
2. Cervical sympathetic (stellate ganglion) block
3. Suprascapular nerve injection
4. Ilioinguinal, iliohypogastric nerve and inguinal canal injection
5. Intercostal nerve block
6. Lumbosacral spine imaging and injection
7. Lateral femoral cutaneous nerve block
8. Piriformis muscle injection and pudendal nerve injection
9. Sacroiliac joint injection
10. Musculoskeletal: Shoulder, hip and knee, wrist and elbow injections
Goals and Objectives
• To discuss the basic knowledge of applying ultrasound machine in the guidance of interventional procedure
• To describe the basic anatomy and sonoanatomy relevant to the performance of selected list of chronic pain block
• To learn a selected list of the ultrasound-guided techniques for performing chronic pain blocks
